Fashion is all about happiness. It’s fun. It’s important. But it’s not medicine.

Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Fashion – University of Derby (UK)
In 2015 our BA (Hons) Fashion Studies course achieved 100% satisfaction in the National Student Survey (NSS)!
You’ll have the chance to exhibit internationally. Lucy Outhwaite and Ravinder Marathu showed their work on the catwalk at the three-day 15th Ningbo International Fashion Fair. The placement opportunities are excellent. Madeleine Rigby worked as a product developer for menswear, underwear and loungewear at BC International.
During the first semester of your first year you’ll be taught alongside the BA (Hons) Textile Design students where you will gain valuable skills such as knit and print, pattern cutting and manufacture. Contextual Studies and Continuous Professional Development (CPD) will continue through to the final year giving you a positive advantage within the fashion and textiles industries. This integration of skills and knowledge has produced innovative and creative textile and fashion designers.
We encourage all second years to take a work placement in industry, which will also give you an additional qualification – the Diploma in Professional Practice. Placements are hard work but give you fantastic experience. Fashion Studies student Krishna Haveliwa secured a placement at Vogue magazine in New York. She began work a few days before New York fashion week and part of her job involved attending a number of the shows.

The jewel designer must be able to operate in different areas of the jewellery (watches, fine jewellery, precious stones, fashion accessories, metals …) with an open mind for creative aspects, as well as those operative (from centenary techniques to more sophisticated tools such as three-dimensional modeling). The Master also offers a broad and strategic vision on trends and market developments, in order to interpret and give an original character to collections, in line with future scenarios.
